Neil Patel is the co-founder of Crazy Egg, Hello Bar, and KISSmetrics and has a widely popular blog on content marketing and internet marketing.

He helps companies like Amazon, NBC, GM, HP and Viacom grow their revenue.

The Wall Street Journal calls him a top influencer on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 online marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies in the world.

He was recognized as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama and one of the top 100 entrepreneurs under the age of 35 by the United Nations.

So first off, you will notice a few things about this episode.

We didn’t have a super amount of time on the clock so we needed to be efficient.

But in the effort of saving time, I completely neglected the first rule of interviewing.

Or at least my types of interviews.

I asked him questions from the head rather than from the heart.

If you have no idea what I mean, once you hear the episode you will understand.

Actually, this is probably a good example of what NOT to do with a podcast with a key influencer in the industry, but nonetheless, I want to be transparent and show you.

No one is perfect.

But actually, listening to it a second time, it’s actually pretty valuable information.

Neil talks about the 2 channels he would utilize if he was starting over today.

Neil also tells us how we can start executing faster and faster

Neil breaks down his philosophy with hacking systems and life in general and much more!

Nathan’s has been an entrepreneur (Heyo recently acquired in 2016) since his college days and (he claims on his website) that he runs on NUCLEAR POWER.

After the interview,  I believe it.

He founded Heyo, a SAAS company that he recently sold through his own orchestrated bidding war and is the executive producer on "The Top" podcast, which has amassed over 1.6 million downloads in the last 9 months.

We have A LOT of superstars on the show, but Nathan is a completely different breed.

Just listening to how meticulous and analytical his brain works and his approach is refreshing.

In the interview, Nathan tells us why the podcasting industry is fixed and needs help.

He also talks about his recent sell of HEYO, his SASS company and how he quadruple (that's 4x) the original offer with 5 "magic" words.

He also shares with me WHY he is the most sued podcaster perhaps ever!

IF you listen to this episode and don’t immediately want to work harder AND smarter, I don't know what you are doing.

This week is we are featuring Jon Nastor from Hack The Entrepreneur.

Jon Nastor, is the host and creator behind the highly rated, Hack The Entrepreneur podcast.

He has interviewed over 200+ entrepreneurs ranging from Guy Kawasaki to Seth Godin all while trying to discover every hack to life / business in between.

In fact, he wrote a book about with the most popular ones in it.

I needed to know. What was the hack that all successful entrepreneurs were using that "normal" people often ignored or looked pass.

The answer (25:55) was a bit shocking.

The conversation with Jon was not only awesome, but this is one of the few interviews that I listened to again in its entirety.

He didn’t always have this awesome brand empire of Hack the entrepreneur. In fact, in the interview Jon tells us about his life previous to all this.

Jon spent his earlier years travelling coast-to-coast across Canada playing drums in several punk rock bands.

He co-founder of VelocityPage, a WordPress plugin that allows anyone to create beautiful landing pages in minutes — without code.

I love interviewing other podcasters on the show, and you are about to hear why.

What You Will Learn From This Episode

  •  How Jon got started in the podcasting game?
  • Who bought his first mic for him (any guesses?)
  • The biggest joy that can come from podcasting
  • The biggest and underrated hack to all successful entrepreneurs (never mentioned on his podcast)
  • how to hack and restart a bad day
  • and much more!!

I thought I would switch the tables on you all and show you an interview that I was featured in earlier this year for 150+ real estate agents.

Have a great weekend!

May 31, 2016

Hey changemakers,

The internet at my place is down and has been down for almost 2 days now. For any online entrepreneur, that has been no fun. But this is too important,

I wanted you to be the first ones to hear about a new announcement as I mentioned in one of my last emails, but today is about dreaming BIG.

Let me give some context here.

I found out over the weekend, but our show. This exact show that you are listening right now.

My voice. Exactly where you are sitting or standing right now. We made it.

We just got nominated as from the People's Choice Podcast Awards as a top 10 business podcast for 2016.

That’s pretty crazy, right?

The first thought that hit me was WOW as if something like this happened. But then I thought, of course. This is what happens when you dare to dream big.

When you dare to status quo and when you dare to choose adventure in your life.

I didn’t know too much about the podcasting world 10 months ago. I didn’t do a course or join a community. Looking back, that’s probably what I should have done. But honestly, I wasn’t in the right frame of mind.

I just couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to get clarity on a message stuck in me and I couldn’t figure out how to do it.

I was trying to build an online business and failing fast. Losing cash every single month. It wasn’t pretty.

It didn’t really matter to me, though, I knew I had this message and if I figure out how to get it out to the world, it has the potential to be apart of my life forever.

It sounds drastic and crazy looking back, but that’s the truth. I simply wanted to build a life and business creating an impact to the world.

It’s like what Connor Beaton from ManTalks was talking about in our last interview. You have to have a vision and be daring enough to dream big.

Here is the thing, though, IF you were starting out just as I was, you do not need to have absolute clarity. You need to simply start.

Clarity is important to have, but more than anything, inaction is often times the killer of dreams.

It’s not as important to have absolute clarity when you are just doing it. You just need to do something that you are drawn to and you can see yourself getting better at, and you can see how it potentially can deliver astronomical value to people's lives.

That’s literally it. No need to complicate it.

There was an episode it did with Joe Rios who has run a marathon on 5 out of the 7 continents in the world. He talked about something called a BHAG.

BHAG stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal. What's your BHAG?

His was to run a marathon on every continent and raise funds for causes he cares about.

Mine is to create content whether it is speeches, videos, podcasts, books, that will move the needle for people and inspire them to share their stories with the world.

What’s your BHAG?

What's your big hairy audacious goal?

What’s your vision for where you want to go?

You need to stop listening to those voices in your head about you not deserving or not good enough or whatever else bullshit you sell yourself so you don’t pursue your dream.

You need to listen to that voice in your heart. The one that says maybe, just maybe you can do it.

But only if you are crazy enough to dream big. To go beyond your results and circumstances of today so that you can be the person you need to be tomorrow.

I am forever grateful to be on this journey with you all. To be documenting in real time my exact responses and emotions.

I am literally overwhelmed with gratitude, even as I am recording this.

If you have gotten any value from this podcast, please visit www.podcastawards.com and vote for The Inner Changemaker in the business category.

I so appreciate you. Remember, we are in this together changemakers.

Until next time, Stay crazy, stay awesome.

Stay crazy, stay awesome.

There are two things you need to consider if you want to be a successful entrepreneur, creator, and/or messenger.

We do a mini-dive into these two topics and I share with you a personal story of my travels to illustrate the point.

If I told you-you can change your life in 5 years, how would you start living?

One love,

For today’s interview, we have Nathan Chan from Foundr Mag, one of the world’s infamous digital magazines.
Once upon a time, Foundr was just a business magazine with a few hundred readers. But we’ve grown. Now, Foundr is a multi-faceted digital media business spreading the love of entrepreneurship through its podcast, magazine and training platform. And Foundr magazine is now enjoyed by thousands upon thousands of entrepreneurs located all around the planet.
Launched by entrepreneur Nathan Chan in 2013 with nothing but a laptop computer and a fistful of dollars, Foundr began dedicated to the mission of helping entrepreneurs build and grow a successful business.
Nathan has put together interviews with literally the world's top entrepreneurs and changemakers, from Richard Branson, to Seth Godin, to Tim Ferriss, these guys are absolutely crushing it.

And they have over 763 thousand followers on Instagram and have been driving exponential traffic through that medium.
In the episode, we discuss his fascinating story and we talk about a super undervalued trait, which is patience.
Nathan walks us through his entire mindset and the constant ups and down of building a multi-faceted digital media empire.
We really dive deep on this because we discuss what it takes to be a patient entrepreneur,
How you can leverage Instagram as a platform to win in today’s world
And Nathan’s future plans for his company and his empire.
One of the most interesting interviews of the season for sure, because I was obviously fascinated with their success and they are a supreme example of what to do in business.
Focusing on one thing at a time, validating their ideas, and taking consistent action.

Jokke Sommer, one of the world’s well-known wing suit flyers and base jumpers.

If you are familiar with the “the people are awesome videos”

Then you will be familiar with Jokke Sommer.

He was one of the first base jumpers to record his jumps with video and GoPro and a quick YouTube search shows millions upon millions of downloads and views.

Jumping out of helicopters in Switzerland and all the world's greatest mountains, we discuss what's his motivation start filming YouTube videos of the jumps?

Warning: it is not for the faint of heart as Jokke has pretty much committed to climbing to the highest peaks in the world and jumping off of them in a strategic fashion.

I know that sounds weird, a guy in a wingsuit, base jumping is taking calculated risks, yes, that is precisely it.

In an effort of changing it up for you guys, I wanted to have him on to talk to us about his perception of fear and how he internalizes the fear.

We talk about that in the interview as well as how we can start living more adventures and realizing our dreams in our current state.

I can say, this is one of the coolest conversations that I have had the pleasure to record and be a part of it.

Bonus transmission to kickstart your week.

I have been receiving a lot of emails recently from individuals telling me what kind of impact my work has on them. They are also asking me for help in terms of what to do next in their lives.

Though it's humbling and I am constantly in awe of the situation, I think it boils down to two things.

It's creating the habit of asking the right questions combined with a deep level of self-awareness thus knowing how to live in every moment.

Once you understand this, you will be able to leverage the power of this moment!

Interested in becoming a podcaster?

For so long, I have known that I wanted to not only get the opportunity to interview my own heroes but to get my message out there in a BIGGER way.

Now that I have cracked the code, speaking internationally at podcasting conferences, I want to help other messengers and creators do the same.

I will be hosting a few masterclasses next week to show you specifically "How you can launch and create a top-rated podcast in 60 days"

Now let’s get to today’s episode with Peter Shankman.

The New York Times has called him "a public relations all-star who knows everything about new media and then some,", while Investor's Business Daily has labeled him "crazy, but effective."

I love his twitter, where it list out like 15 things,

Including @NASA advisor, Ironman. Skydiver. Dad.

Peter Shankman is a spectacular example of what happens when you merge the power of pure creativity with  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a dose of adventure, and make it work to your advantage.

He is a bestselling author, entrepreneur, speaker, and worldwide connector, Peter is recognized worldwide for radically new ways of thinking about Customer Service, Entrepreneurship, Social Media, PR, marketing and advertising.

Peter is best known for founding Help A Reporter Out, (HARO) which in under a year became the de-facto standard for thousands of journalists looking for sources on deadline, offering them more than 200,000 sources around the world looking to be quoted in the media.

HARO is currently the largest free source repository in the world, sending out over 1,500 queries from worldwide media each week. HARO’s tagline, “Everyone is an Expert at Something”, proves over and over again to be true, as thousands of new members join at helpareporter.com each week.

In June of 2010, less than two years after Peter started HARO in his apartment, it was acquired by Cision, Inc.

Peter is the founder of ShankMinds: Breakthrough, a private online entrepreneurial community, with members in more-than-ten countries.

Peter also hosts the award-winning podcast on ADD and ADHD, Faster Than Normal, which is helping to turn the conversation around ADHD from curse to gift, by interviewing successful people who have made ADHD their secret superpower.

His answer will surprise you.

It’s something we have talked about before on this show and it was really great that he brought that up.

This conversation got really interesting as we deep dived on self-awareness and mindset. Usual topics for this podcast. But he went deeper.

He broke it multiple stages for men and women and what you should do in each stage of living. It was a fascinating topic.

I am clearly doing no justice to all the amazing gems that Jairek dropped in our interview, so let us get to it right away.

This is part 2 of a series that I want to do for you guys. We are taking a deeper look at how we can apply a lot of the amazing content we have heard in the 90-days and how to action it in our own lives.

In part 1, earlier this week, we went through some affirmations for everyone. You should still be feeling confident and oozing with energy. If you have not checked that episode out, feel free to take a listen here.

Have you enjoyed the last 90-days as much as I have?

What kind of results have you achieved in the last quarter?

In TICM 47, I talked about this one tool that I have been experimenting with called the intention letter. Essentially, it combines visualization and imagination into an actual actionable tool and you write yourself a letter 90-days from now, but you do it in the past tense.

For ex: I wrote, I spoke at this conference and you won’t believe what happened. I also got this speaking opportunity. So… that actually happened.

I spoke at Podfest in Tampa and by the end of the conference, I had a full blown course underway and I found out that I am going to be speaking at Podcast Movement. Crazy right?

Example 1: I wrote about this event company that we started, it's called Toronto Internet Marketers

Example 2: I wrote that I wanted to build up my email list to the 10,000 mark, but I never wrote down in detail how I am going to go about getting the 10,000. Same thing for monthly income. I had a range of 8-12k per month. And I didn’t hit this either as I could have been more specific in terms of the actions I wanted to take. For example, I wrote, sell the online course. I should have written, "sell podcasting creators course at a specific price pt and will generate x amount over this period." That is more specific and would be easier to visualize. But nonetheless, I am grateful that I made a decent income from launching the podcasting course.

Let me give you a little more context.

I have this course that helps messengers and entrepreneurs launch #1 podcasts just like I did in the beginning and help them get their message out to the world in a bigger way. The piggybacking that I have been able to leverage through the podcast and just the pure learning has been life changing. I have learned how to leverage my front-end, my podcast, my videos, my social media to funnel people to my back-end, courses, email lists, what have you . I have about a big group of students going through the program now and it's exciting to see other entrepreneurs and messengers get ready to present their message to the world in a bigger way.

Because I really go all out in the sessions, they have been overwhelmed with each of their projects and that’s where most of my time have gone the last few weeks. It’s a 6-week accelerator program with direct coaching from me, I throw in my 1-on-1 time and a private community behind it all.

If you are listening and you are a messenger or entrepreneur looking to launch your show in the next 4 months, then I would love to help you out. Unfortunately, we have no openings right now. We are looking to start a new cohort starting in May, though.

Feel free to go to www.theinnerchangemaker.com/waitlist and get on the waitlist for this accelerator program.

Jonathan is the co-founder of refound, a management and leadership coaching organization dedicated to helping managers and employees enact change from the inside and out and former CEO of EMyth (the company that brought us the wonderful books The EMyth and The EMyth Revisited).

Honestly, if you have not heard of e-myth, where have you been? It’s getting up there as one of those timeless classics in terms of business books.

Well, since Jonathan’s time there, he has grown into a successful entrepreneur in his own right and an author now.

He came on the show today and shares with us his insights on how the e-myth framework still applies in today’s business markets.

Jonathan talks to us about collaboration and finding the right business partners in business.

At first glance, it seems like we are pitting employees against entrepreneurs, but I promise, its’ actually about culture and teamwork.

We do a deep dive on "culture" and what this means for us as entrepreneurs and solo-preneurs and how we can look to attract the right partners and superstar teammates.

I get it. You are thinking culture?? Seriously Jay…

It lacks the sexiness of seven-figure xyz or marketing strategy hack over here, but culture, specifically team culture and building teams is a topic I have grown to be fascinated by.

As I have matured even with doing the show, and in my business, building a team has never been more crucial and I get kinda schooled in this episode, which is part of the reason why I love these conversations.

This episode is all about teamwork, delegation, and creating the right partnerships.

We also mention his NEW and upcoming book, "Good Authority - How to become the leader your team is waiting for"

However, if you want to read the first couple chapters of the book, please visit goodauthoritybook.com to download your free chapters.

Part of this is a replay from last year. If you have not heard the episode on self-love #61, you gotta check that out first :)

--

This is a personal episode. It is something that I feel compelled to share.

Validating ourselves and our journey has led me to realize the many ups and downs in my life.

It has led me to embrace all aspects of myself and it is one of the most honest exercises we can do.

I invite you to join me on this episode and explore this side of yourself.

Jason Connell is a world traveler, a world class speaker and writer who teaches confidence, self-love, and self-compassion.

He's worked with everyone from Senior members of the Obama administration and professional athletes to middle school students and emerging entrepreneurs.

He is one of the most genuine people I have had the chance to interview on the show. In this interview, we do a deep dive on the topic of self-love and self-compassion.

Jason gives us the real deal on how to tactically approach our inner work and it is evident within seconds into the conversation.

In other words, he is not here to sugar coat anything for us.

He also tells us why he believes the saying of “fake it till you make it” is also complete bullshit! We also talk about Finding the courage to trust yourself and your intuition. Which I know for a lot of us listening, we can always use for help in terms of personal growth and move forward to our projects with more love and more courage. So total behind the scenes moment, we were actually supposed to chat about how to make money from public speaking. Obviously, I wanted to hear it for my business, but I thought you would find value out of that.

"How do you get everything done so efficient?" The overly simple answer is FOCUS.

But used in a very specific manner.

It was a been a while since it was just us. The sound of my voice and your ears.

So much has happened in the last 6-8 weeks that it’s hard to know where to start.

Enough about the past and what has happened, let’s talk about right now.

This moment.

It’s March. Perhaps you are like me, things are happening at 100 mph in your life.

Perhaps you are booking summer plans?

Perhaps this year is not what you imagined...

Not matter where you are at, let’s bring our focus to what matters most.

This is two-fold. Your grand vision and at the same time knowing the next tactical move.

People forget. It was less than 90 days ago when we started 2016. Whether you set a new years resolution or not is beside the point.

I am talking about setting intentions.

You probably set an intention somewhere along the way and said to yourself, I would really like to do this one thing this year.

Or I hope I keep myself open. Or I want to incorporate this habit.

Whatever it is that you set on doing, its either in the midst of happening or its not happening at all.

It’s chaotic right now. I get it. People are getting new opportunities, perhaps you are listening to this and you lost an opportunity, which in turn gives that that new opportunity.

Here is the thing, it is nice to be moving at a 100 mph, but we have to think about whats important.

Why are you doing what you are doing?

We forget, it can all end tomorrow.

It is likely, probably not. But imagine for a few seconds that it does.

If it was all gone tomorrow, would you be happy being and doing exactly what you are doing?

Not just happy, but beaming with joy. Almost as if you feel you are exactly where you need to be.

Sure, it would be nice if you were a little more ahead. Or if you are behind, then it would definitely feel nice to be ahead, but are you on your way to where you need to be.

Because if you are, you feel it.

You already know what I am talking about.

You are living in total alignment and you are loving it.

But let’s help our friends that might not be 100% there.

Perhaps you feel it a bit, or you know you are not suppose to be where you are. Maybe you lose sight of your "why" and you don’t know how to fix it.

Here is an exercise from a recent book that I read by Gary Keller, The One Thing.

It’s called the "focus question"

You simply asked yourself, "what is the one thing that you can do thus by doing it, everything will be easier or unnecessary?"

This question needs to be asked on two levels. Macro and micro.

So let’s start at a macro level – what do you need to focus on that by doing so, everything will be easier.

Perhaps it is your career or your business that you need to fix and focus on.

The micro level – is the most important first step that you need to take right now so that you are moving forward in the direction of your macro vision.

Example, perhaps it's making 5 sales calls, or sending 5 proposals. Whatever it is, it's all about figuring out the most important task and doing it.

Does that make sense?

Imagine a zooming in and zooming out of your life plan here.

You want to be able to focus on what matters, and execute on the tactical level right away.

The rest is honestly irreverent.

I found this exercise quite useful as there are TONs of new opportunities that have been coming up, but I am learning to say "no" and having to remind myself to focus on what really matters.

There's a beautiful quote from Mark Twain about success "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one."

That's more or less what you are doing here.

Getting started on what is important. Forget the noise, just focus on your grand vision (the macro part) and then focus on the next step (the micro part.)

I hope that makes sense and I hope that helps you feel a little less overwhelmed while we are attacking this year.

I have so much to give and I have so much amazing content in the pipeline for you guys.

Try this method and let me know how it goes.

Living a remarkable life. We all want it, yet so few of us actually execute and live it. w

We have AJ Leon from MisFit Inc on the show this week.

AJ Leon came from a background in finance and was quite successful by every metric in the world.

Corner office, insane salary bonuses, manhattan skyline, $10,000 desk, He seemingly had it all.

But inside, he was depressed.

He knew that if he continued down this path, he would never live the life he was meant for.

Ultimately, he made a choice and gave up his old life to pursue a life filled with meaning. Filled with significance, nomadic travels around the globe, creating art and humanitarian projects.

He shares his in-depth story with us in this interview and tells us how we can start living our own remarkable lives.

It's not about following me or following AJ, it’s about deciding for yourself what kind of life you want to live and start walking in that direction.

AJ is one of the most passionate speakers I have come across and there is a lot of colourful language being used in this episode.

Sol Orwell shares with us how he created some of the best content in the world and how he leveraged it to create his seven-figure business; Examine.com

Examine.com is an independent encyclopedia on supplementation and nutrition.

Learn how Sol build up his business, and how he set it up so that he does not have to work at all.

It involves hiring contractors at the right stage, but still keeping majoring stakes in the game.

In the episode, we talk about how people can create GREAT content and what they should do to start being a part of the right communities.

Then we talk about how to monetize your content so that you can leverage it to build the business and brand you want.

Doesn’t matter if you are a podcaster like myself or a blogger, how do you generate ROI? That's the key here.

I have to apologize for the audio today, we had a lot of technical difficulties recording this and I was using a different piece of software so it made the editing virtually impossible.

Just ignore all the noise on my end and try to focus on of Sol’s great tactics and story.
