This is the MOST IMPORTANT episode of the season. These are the most crucial lessons that I have learnt from being an entrepreneur the past year.

Will be updating with badass interviews the end of the month.

Live with passion, live your dream and live it NOW!

Dec 8, 2015

Considering it is the holiday season,  I am sure we are all in a reflective mood.

We look back at the last few months, our year and see how we did.
We are also excited for the future. Excited for the road ahead. The possibilities.

I have a tool that I would like to share with you. It’s called the Intention Letter.

This tool is something I have been working on and testing on myself for the last year, and it has had some phenomenal results. Perhaps it can help you as well.

My intention in this episode to tell you why I do it and the reasoning behind the magic. It has the power to change your life.

The inspiration behind the letter?

The Intention Letter is a combination of visualization tools and by what some entrepreneurs call “90-day letters.”

Why 90 days you might ask?

There is a lot of research out there that points to the fact that we are unable to see past what needs to happen or what can happen within 90 days.

In you guys remember the interview I had with Jayson Gaignard in episode 29, he mentioned that he has a friend who is a venture capitalist that does not believe in business plans.

When asked why ”...because all business plans without fail, project themselves making money from Day 1 and also doubling down on growth for the next 5 years.”

If that was the real case then everyone would be a successful entrepreneur.

There would be no point to the struggle or telling each other to hustle more.

Unfortunately, that is not the reality. Remember, if it was easy, then everyone would do it

Back to the intention letters…

It is a tool to help you visualize your next 90 days and do it in a manner that is not so esoteric and logically makes sense for the common mind to follow.

It is very straightforward. This is how it is done.

You write yourself a letter with the date 90 days from now. (Ex: Today is December 9th, you would write March 9th as the date of your letter)

When you write the letter, you write the letter as if you were living on March 9th looking back to today.

As you write the letter, recount the epic three months that just happened.

Pretend as if you are telling your friend this wild adventure you have just been on and try to include as much detail you can.

The more vivid the better.

By changing the lens of your perspective, you are going to be predicting the next 90 days of your life.

You will also be writing everything in the past tense. Once again, as if everything has already happened and you are simply stating the truth.

This tool works for a few reasons.

  1. It grounds your visualization.

Instead of constantly looking outward and trying to imagine what is not real.

Seeing is believing right? Well, sometimes you gotta make yourself a believer in a different manner.

If you know anything about me, I believe it all comes down to action to begin with. Act as if and the doors of the universe will bow down to you.

Words are words. But actions speak volume to the character of your being.

Trust me, I love all the visualization tools as well, but I always wondered how I can make it more concrete for myself.

This is one of the ways that I have come up with.

By writing everything in the past tense, you can trick yourself and your brain that these AMAZING things have already happened.

It is more believable and powerful than reading affirmations to yourself every morning and night and having your brain call you out.

With this tool, I was able to predict my international speaking engagement earlier this year in Portugal.

I was also able to predict having my first group of students run through my pilot program on Personal branding.

I literally wrote down “10 students” and guess what, I had 10 students ;)

  1. This tool leverages your FULL intention

They say, what we constantly think about, we become.

However, we are emotional beings. We can feel the energy at times.

It has certainly happened to you. When there is passion, there is love, there is depression, it’s a feeling first, then we rationalize with thought.

One of the first books I re-read this year was a book by Lynne McTaggart called Intention experiment, where she talks about our intention is what guides our energy.

She talks about how it starts with intention and then the rest of the “Secret Formula” falls into place

In her book, she cites all these wild experiments with people around the world sending intention to various objects such as changing water participles, to heal each other and they document their results on their websites.

This episode is not meant to debate if you believe in prayer or not. But if you are going to entertain this exercises, then for the sake of the exercise, believe that your intention will make a difference.

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t you are right.” - Henry Ford

So let me ask you this...What do you think you are going to accomplish in the next 90 days?

There is a superb quote from Philip Mckernan, who I recently interviewed (Will be releasing episode in 2016) where we do a deep dive on intuition and it gets pretty crazy...He said, “We typically give ourselves what we deserve.”

Perhaps, it is not what you believe will happen in the next 90 days, but rather how much do you feel you deserve it?

What do you deserve? We give ourselves what we deserve.

Food for thought.

  1. It gives you space to dream big, but plenty of rooms to mess up.

Isn’t that what personal development and personal growth are all about?

Pushing us past what we thought our previous limitations were, and onto new horizons.

I am not going to stand here and tell you that everything on my letters came true for myself.

In fact, I missed the mark on more than 50% of the things I wrote down.

  • I did not hit my projected revenue goals for the quarter or the year for that matter.
  • I am not location independent...yet
  • I did not land any more international speaking opportunities…yet

But look at it this way, I had the courage to write them down.

Do you have the courage to dream BIG?!

In episode 36, we talked about executing faster. It is not about doing it all on the first try, rather it is about moving through the steps quickly and successfully.

Think not A to Z in one shot, but focus rather A to B, B to C etc...

That is why I believe the intention letters works.

It allows you to dream as big as possible, but still holds you accountable to yourself, because you are writing it in the past tense.

You are also going to be reading them aloud to yourself every morning and night.

If you don’t accomplish the things you set out to do, you get to figure out why?

Ask yourself - What else you need to make happen before that action becomes a reality?

I write one of these intention letters to myself every 90 days.

Every time, I push myself to dream big, but I also try to write how I did it.

Sometimes, it is a complete guess.

  • I have written down the name of potential mentors before and thanked them, but they never really mentored me after we first met.
  • I have written down things that I have accomplished already, but in reality, they are still a work in progress.

The thing here is not to focus on what you have not achieved but focus on the possibility. On what you can achieve.

There’s that startling stat that 66% of people quit their New Years resolution one month into the year.

What do these people do for the rest of the year?

“ Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.” - Albert Einstein

Don’t let 2016 be like every year. You need to raise the standard on everything.

On your health and well being. On your relationships with friends and co-workers, with your family.

Can you give more love? How about more compassion? Can you be even more present in your daily routine?

Don’t aim to do it all at once. Chunk it down to 90 days and write your Intention Letters TODAY!

Let me know how it feels or how it goes with your own intention letters. I am here to help you have the most kickass 90-days of your life yet.

All fear is bullshit. It's all in our head. We are not just afraid of failing or rejection as much as we are afraid of hard work.

It's a tough pill to swallow. But it is hard work that you are afraid of. You are afraid of going all out and putting something out in the world that is almost too much of yourself.

I have a solution for you, though....FOCUS ON CONSISTENCY.

If you focus on consistency, then you are asking yourself better questions.

Instead of asking fear-based questions, your mind is focused on getting to the next time you take action. Consistency, ladies and gentlemen, is the key to overcoming fear.

Now for this week’s interview, we have Nick and Gen, my first couple on the show, and they have a podcast called The Great Anomaly.

They travel the world as a couple or as they refer to themselves “ couple-preneurS” and they help other couples, freelancer and entrepreneurs realize the same location independent dream.

For a lot of the listeners, there is always this romantic notion of quitting your life and traveling the world.

Trust me, I have been there, and let me tell you. It is amazing when it happens, but if you have no plan like I did, you will run out of money fast and it will not be a pretty scene.

Nick and Gen are entrepreneurs to start. They made decent a living from affiliate marketing and thus began their journey on the road to entrepreneurship.

However, they were extremely overworked and their business did not aligned with their goals and purpose as a couple.

In our conversation, they walked us through their exact journey to how they were able to do what they do; live anywhere in the world and have a business to support both of them.

I have said it many times on the show, these episodes about traveling is not meant to romanticize traveling, but this show is about lifestyle design and being a changemaker, creating a change for others and embracing the changes in our lives.

We have a candid conversation on the reality of this lifestyle and how if you are a couple or single, you can apply their techniques to start creating the freedom that you want to see in your life.

I want to point out, there are no shortcuts and it is certainly not going to happen overnight, but it is  always great to see case studies like Nick and Gen. Being "couple-preneurs", building businesses and traveling the world.

As I reflect on my past year, I realize almost nothing I had planned out went “according to plan”

Isn’t that the simple truth of life. Change is the only constant in the world.

If we know change is coming, why do we not plan for it? In this episode, I break down how exactly we can do that and be proactive when it comes to change.

Question of the day - What has been the BIGGEST change for you this year? Let me know in the comment section of the video

Are you going through a transitional period?

Perhaps you just graduated or suffered a loss of some kind, or maybe its a change in your job or your business.

Or perhaps you are simply "stuck"

Whatever you are going through, we have been there and we are here for you.

This week's episode looks to tackle the ever constant issue of change and how we can deal with change in positive ways to make ourselves wiser, stronger and better.

Solonia Teodros is one of the co-founders of Change School, a learning institute all about change as they facilitate workshops and retreats to help people in transition.

Their flagship retreat, ChangeVentures, is a 21-day retreat in Bali where people gather to deconstruct old beliefs, reconstruct new ones and apply all learnings towards a more fulfilling life.

In this episode,  Solonia walks us through exactly what The Change School is, how they came to be, and as well as breaks down the impact the workshops has had on previous attendees.

Solonia tells us how we can cope with change, some new habits we can all incorporate and gives some great online resources as well.

Stop focusing on being an entrepreneur because it is cool or you want the "lifestyle."

Focus on finding a PAIN and SOLVING a problem for the world. That is how you are going to create value for society.

At the end of the day, society might deem you "an entrepreneur", and that is cool. But stop aiming for that nonsense in the beginning

Deliver value with everything you do and be a hero to someone else besides yourself.

Agree? Disagree?

This is a great mind shift that I have learnt recently from guests on the show as well as seeing world class speakers live.

Aligning your values to what you say you are going to do. It's honestly that simple.

If you do not align your values, you are going to be running in circles for a long time.

This week, we have Will Hatton from

He has been travelling around the world for seven years now and first hit the road with just a couple of dollars in his pocket and backpack.

Now, after years of roughing it and working odd jobs to stay on the road, he founded his budget adventure website 'The Broke Backpacker’.

Within the first year, he was published by The BBC, The Daily Mail, Business Insider, Forbes, Yahoo Travel and numerous other publications

He has amassed social media following of over 100,000 followers and used this to catapult himself into the limelight with editors, tourism boards and travel contacts.

He is now sponsored by GoPro, Red Bull, Hostel World and some other prominent names in the travel industry.

The Daily Mail has described him as ‘The Most Adventurous Backpacker in the World’ and he is currently preparing or should I say currently embarking on his most ambitious project to date;

A two year trip from the UK to Papua New Guinea, He wants to go through thirty countries, without the use of any flights.

Obviously, this is a really badass life that most millennials dream about, so I was really curious to get Will on the show.

In this episode, he literally breaks it all down for us.

How did he start blogging?

How did he start monetizing on writing?

How does he get some of these sponsors and businesses to support his cause and trips?

And of course, Will shared some near death experiences and cool traveling stories from all his adventures.

Everyone is always looking for hacks and shortcuts.

The truth is...there are no shortcuts.

There is only things that you do and things that you do not do.

It comes down to how much action you are willing to take.

The biggest habit hack one can use is breaking down habits into bite-size pieces. Instead of trying to go from A to Z in one shot, try just going from A to B.

Whichever successful habit you are trying to build, start small. Build up the muscles to sustain the new habit.

How To Be World-Class.

It is what a lot of individuals want for their careers, their passions, their respective sport, but why is it that only so very few are world-class.

The answer comes down to the fact on whether or not you believe you are world class right now.

I am not talking about tomorrow or when you finally have "X" amount of money in the bank. I am talking about right now.

Are you world class right this minute?

Because counter-intuitive to what most believe, everything starts with that belief of being world-class today.

This week, I thought I would do something differently as I come to you live from the roof of a hotel in the Bay Area.

The episode this week featured Chris Thomson, CEO of Student Works. During the episode, he mentioned that his favourite word is "willingness." It means that you will do whatever it takes to get it done.

It can represent a goal, a dream or in this case, my podcast episode / video.

How willing are you to do what it takes? To wake up early? To out-hustle others? To put it all on the line?

This week, we had the pleasure of having Berni Xiong on the show and I loved her energy from the beginning. What I loved more was the fact that we talked about her failures and how people don’t know how to fail.

I did an old video that got a couple thousand views on the fear of failure. And how failure and success are not a binary notion.

It’s not one or the other. You need one to get to the other. In other words, you need failure to get to success.

Think back to when we were in school, and IF you were to fail, it would be this massive deal. Something is not right with you. You can’t read fast enough. You are not smart enough. It is always something that is lacking in you.

Well, schools base everything on the average student. The average learning speed. It’s how they can manage hundreds and sometimes thousands of new students every year.

Well, what worked In school does not necessarily apply to life. It’s just like coaching entrepreneurs. What works in starting your business from 0-100k is not what is going to make the business go from 100k to 500k.

Life is about change. That is what this show is about. How do we embrace that change? How do we fearlessly walk into the unknown.

I encourage you to think about your life. Are you measuring against the average person in society?

Because there is that stat floating around saying 85%,+ of ppl hate their jobs.

Because the average person is just that....average.

Because the average person is not fulfilled

I am sorry if this is offending certain people, but being average is not cool. Don’t buy into what others are saying that everyone is going to be around average, so just aim average.

If that is your thinking, well, you probably stopped listening to this show a long time ago.

Average is pathetic. That’s really what average is. And we are going to be average if you eat average food, think average thoughts, and do average things.

It does not take a genius to look around and see that there is a skew of wealth in the world. Why is it that 1% of the world own 99% of the money and resources available to the world?

Successful people follow patterns. They know what works and they break-out of the system of what everyone else is doing.

Mark Twain famously said - Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect

So think about it? No need to answer my question of the day or anything like that. But seriously take some time and ponder.

When was the last time you really failed at something? Did you tell others about it? Lewis Schiff wrote in his book business brilliant. 7 out of 10 multi-millionaires would say they are successful because failure is what showed them what they were great at.

Only 2 out of 10 people in the middle class would agree. Well, ask yourself. Do you want to be in the middle class? Do you want to be average?

I am not telling you that you should not be grateful if you are. Or if you happen to be in the middle class.

I am saying – If you want to be great. If being a changemaker or having the ability to make a positive impact in others lives is important to you, you must fail yourself out of the average.

I will say it again. You must fail faster. You must fail smarter. You must fail forward to being out of the average.

It was said during the interview. People who fail more have more attempts and is, therefore, successful by default because they tried more, failed more and the 1 or 2 times they were successful, that’s where it counts.

So don’t be afraid of failure. Embrace Failure. Because you never know what you might learn that will apply into success the next turn around.

Berni Xiong is an intuitive coach, speaker, and Reiki Master Teacher. She is the author of The Year of the Brave Bear: Speak Up. Stand Out. Change Your World., and contributing author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Time to Thrive.

In this episode, Bernie walks us through how she went from corporate sales job, to stop to chasing someone else’s dream and follow her roaring misfit heart.

She started coaching from her living room with $200 start-up capital, no entrepreneurial background and a lot of ambition.

Though her seven year journey, she has gone through some serious trial and tribulations and once I heard her story and her attitude on her personal failures, I had to have her on the show.
